Anime Squadron Gear Guide: Which Set Fits Your Unit
All 7 real gear sets with their actual bonus numbers, plus a recommender that matches gear to your unit's role and game stage. Gear data cross-checked 2026-07-14.
What this Anime Squadron gear guide adds over a plain stat table is the cost side. The recommender weighs each set's bonus against what it takes to finish, which is why it will tell an early-game unit to stop at Ninja instead of chasing Mythic accessories it cannot farm yet.
Quick answer
- Every unit has 6 gear slots: Helmet, Chest, Boots for armor sets, plus Necklace, Core and Sword for the 3 Mythic accessories.
- Armor sets (Saiyan/Pirate/Ninja) bonus at 2 pieces - the 3rd piece adds nothing.
- Puppeteer is the one exception: it needs the full 3 pieces before its DMG/DEF bonus turns on.
- Tanks want Puppeteer + Hogyoku. Crit DPS wants Devil Amulet + Devil Sword + Hogyoku. Everyone else can stop at Ninja.
Gear Build Recommender
Pick your unit and your current stage. The recommender matches gear to the unit's actual role, not just its tier, so a support and a tank at the same stage get different sets.
2-piece Ninja is the standard mid-game armor. Over a full fight it out-damages Pirate because the RNG bonus stacks the longer Gometa stays in combat, and by Acts 3-6 most fights run long enough to reach the cap.
All 7 gear sets, ranked by rarity
Bonus numbers below are cross-checked against two independent community wikis. The developer has never published an official gear manual, so verify a set's exact effect in-game before you commit Gold.
| Set | Rarity | Slot | Pieces | Gold | Bonus | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saiyan Set | Rare | Head / Body / Feet | 2 | 500 | +5% DMG and +5% RNG (2-piece) | Day 1-2 accounts still farming Acts 1-2 gold |
| Pirate Set | Epic | Head / Body / Feet | 2 | 1,000 | -5% cooldown, +2.5% DMG every 10s, caps at +10% DMG (2-piece) | ability-spam units that outlast a fight rather than burst it |
| Ninja Set | Legendary | Head / Body / Feet | 2 | 1,500 | +5% DMG, +3% RNG per hit taken, caps at +15% RNG (2-piece) | the standard mid-game armor before you can afford Mythic pieces |
| Puppeteer Set | Mythic | Head / Body / Feet | 3 | 7,500 | +1% DMG and +1% DEF per hit taken, caps at +30% each - needs the full 3 pieces | tanks and frontline units that expect to eat hits every fight |
| Hogyoku | Mythic | Accessory (Core) | 1 | 2,500 | -7.5% cooldown | ability-heavy carries and supports that want more casts per fight |
| Devil Amulet | Mythic | Accessory (Necklace) | 1 | 2,500 | +10% crit chance | any crit-scaling DPS - it feeds directly into Devil Sword |
| Devil Sword | Mythic | Accessory (Sword) | 1 | 2,500 | +5% DMG per crit for 5s, stacking to +15% DMG | crit DPS once Devil Amulet is feeding it a real crit chance |

How gear slots and set bonuses work
Anime Squadron gear comes from the Crafting NPC in the lobby's Upgrades zone, not from summons or codes. Each unit has 6 slots: Helmet, Chest and Boots hold the three armor sets (Saiyan, Pirate, Ninja, Puppeteer), while Necklace, Core and Sword hold the three Mythic accessories (Devil Amulet, Hogyoku, Devil Sword). Not every unit starts with all 6 slots open - some need a Gold upgrade first.
Set bonuses for the craftable armor sets turn on at 2 matching pieces, and buying the 3rd piece adds nothing beyond looks. Puppeteer is the outlier: its bonus stays off until you own all 3 pieces. The Mythic accessories are single items, so each one activates the moment it's equipped.
Sourced from community wikis cross-checked 2026-07-14, not an official patch note. Not ideal for: players expecting a dev-published stat sheet - none exists for this game yet.
Gear guide FAQ
How do I craft gear in Anime Squadron?
Walk into the Upgrades zone in the lobby and talk to the Crafting NPC. Pick the piece you want and hit Craft - if you have enough Gold and materials it drops straight into your inventory. There's no separate currency for gear, it's all Gold.
How many gear slots does each unit have?
Six: Helmet, Chest and Boots for the armor sets (Saiyan, Pirate, Ninja, Puppeteer), plus Necklace, Core and Sword for the three Mythic accessories (Devil Amulet, Hogyoku, Devil Sword). Not every unit starts with all six unlocked - some need a Gold upgrade to open the later slots.
Do I need to craft all 3 pieces of Saiyan, Pirate or Ninja?
No. Those set bonuses activate at 2 pieces, and nothing extra unlocks at 3. Craft 2, save the Gold for the 3rd on something else. Puppeteer is the exception - it needs the full 3 pieces before any bonus turns on.
What is the best gear set for tanks in Anime Squadron?
Full 3-piece Puppeteer plus Hogyoku. Puppeteer's damage and defense both climb every time the unit gets hit, capping at +30% each, which fits a frontline tank's job description exactly. Hogyoku's cooldown cut then keeps a block or taunt skill available more often.
Which Mythic gear should I craft first, Hogyoku or Devil Sword?
Hogyoku, generally - it helps almost every kit through cooldown reduction alone. Devil Sword only pays off once you also have Devil Amulet feeding it crit chance, so it's a two-piece investment rather than a standalone pickup.
Is the Puppeteer set worth 7,500 gold?
For a tank or frontline unit you plan to keep long-term, yes - nothing else in the game scales damage and defense together the way Puppeteer does. For a squishy backline unit it's a poor trade, since the bonus never ramps up if the unit isn't getting hit.
What is the cheapest good gear set in Anime Squadron?
2-piece Saiyan at 500 Gold. It's the only set a fresh account can afford, and the flat +5% DMG / +5% RNG split works on any role, which is why it's the default recommendation before Act 3.
Finish the build
Gear is one piece. Trait, evolution and roster all feed into the same carry.
