Anime Squadron Summoning Guide: Selection vs Basic Banner
Anime Squadron summoning guide: Selection banner vs Basic banner, gems per pull, pity, and exactly when to pull for a Mythic.
Summoning in Anime Squadron looks simple until you have 3,000 Gems burning a hole in your account and two banners asking for them. Pick wrong and you walk away with a fistful of Commons. The two banners are not interchangeable, and the right call depends mostly on your account level and how badly you want a specific Mythic. Here is how the Basic and Selection banners differ and when to use each.
Basic banner: the starting pool
The Basic banner is what you have from the moment you start. It is the full pool: Commons at the high end of the rate, Mythics at the bottom, and everything in between. A single pull costs 50 Gems.
The rates tell the story. Common starters sit around 35% each, Rares around 9%, Epics around 2.75%, Legendaries around 0.85%, and Mythics at roughly 0.05% per single pull. That 0.05% is the number to sit with for a second. It means a specific Mythic on Basic is a long shot, because you are not just fighting the 0.05% Mythic rate, you are also splitting that thin slice across every Mythic in the pool.
So why pull Basic at all? Two reasons. First, it is where early bodies come from when your roster is empty. Second, Fastwagon, the economy unit every account should build first, is an Epic at 2.75%, which is reachable here without heavy luck. A handful of Basic pulls early to fish for Fastwagon is reasonable. Dumping your whole Gem bank into it is not.
Selection banner: the targeted hunt
The Selection banner opens at level 10, and it is the one worth saving for. Its feature is the difference-maker: you lock a single Mythic as your target, and the banner refreshes every 24 hours. Instead of the Mythic rate being smeared across the whole pool, your locked target gets the focus.
That single change is why the Selection banner is the one to use once you have a real Gem stockpile. The Mythic rate per pull is still low, but you are now hunting one named unit instead of praying for any Mythic and hoping it is the one you wanted. For a targeted support like Shinks, Selection is the only sensible way to chase it. Not every strong unit is on a banner at all, though - Puppeteer (Transcendent) is farmed from the Katakara Bridge Challenge rather than pulled.
Gems per pull and what your stockpile buys
The math is the same on both banners: 50 Gems per single pull. If you have followed the beginner guide and redeemed the current codes, you are sitting on roughly 3,000 Gems between UPD0.75! and EventChanges. That is about 60 single pulls.
Sixty pulls pointed at a locked Selection target is a genuine run at a Mythic. Sixty pulls scattered across the Basic pool is, statistically, a pile of Commons and maybe an Epic or two. Same Gems, very different outcome. The calculators page can turn your exact Gem balance into an estimated number of pulls and a rough chance of hitting your target, which beats guessing.
A note on pity
Most gacha players want to know the pity count, the guaranteed-pull ceiling that protects you from terrible luck. Anime Squadron does appear to have a pity system, but the exact threshold is one of the murkier numbers in the game. Community reports during UPD 0.75 conflict, with some citing a high pull count and others a much lower one, and there is no official published figure.
Because of that, I would not plan around hitting pity. Treat any Mythic before the ceiling as the goal and pity as a backstop you hope you do not need. If you are pulling specifically to reach a guaranteed pity, verify the current count in-game first, since this is exactly the kind of number Komplex Studio can change between patches.
When to actually pull
A simple decision tree:
- Below level 10? The Selection banner is locked. Do a few Basic pulls if you need bodies or want to fish for Fastwagon, but hold the bulk of your Gems.
- Level 10 and you have a target Mythic in mind? Save to a meaningful stockpile, around 50 to 60 pulls, then commit it all to one locked Selection target in a session. Half-funded runs are how Gems get wasted.
- No specific target yet? Hold. Gems do not expire, and a focused run later beats an aimless one now. Check the tier list first so you are locking a unit worth the pulls.
Reading the rarity ladder before you spend
It helps to know what you are actually rolling against. The rarity ladder runs Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, and then Secret at the top. Here is the catch that changes how you summon: the Secret units, the absolute best in the game, mostly do not come from any banner at all. Gometa (SSJ4), Woo (Shadow), and the other top carries are evolve-only. You build them through raid questlines, not pulls.
That reframes what summoning is for. You are not pulling to get the best units in the game, because the best units are not in the pool. You are pulling for the strong Mythic supports and DPS that round out a squad, like Shinks or Puppeteer (Transcendent), and for the evolution base units that feed into the Secret questlines. Once you internalize that, the case for the Selection banner gets stronger: you are hunting specific, named Mythics, which is exactly what the lock feature is built for.
Common summoning mistakes
- Pulling Basic with your whole Gem bank instead of saving for Selection.
- Forgetting the Selection target refreshes every 24 hours, so you can re-lock if priorities change.
- Planning a session around a pity count nobody has confirmed.
- Chasing a Mythic before you have a reason to want that specific unit.
Redeem your codes, reach level 10, pick one Mythic worth locking, and spend a real stockpile on the Selection banner rather than trickling pulls into Basic. For which Mythic deserves that lock, the tier list is the place to start.
